Today me and Jen had a meeting with the Speech Therapist Amanda, It was a most positive helpful meeting.
The Speech Therapist said that Sophie has a very severe case, one of the worse she has come across of Verbal Dyspraxia. Sophie is going to be referred by her consultant to a Speech professional (her title is a long mouthful) at Great Ormond Street London, where she will have a 3hr assessment for an Electronic Communication Aid (Finally..........), after she has been assessed, they have an electronic communication aid aid Library and she will be loaned an appliance, untill the right one is found, when the right appliance has been found Norfolk Primary Care Trust has agreed to purchase one. Brilliant!!!!!
Also this week following rising the profile in the press of Sophie, we have been contacted by West Norfolk Dyspraxia Association, every Saturday morning, they have a childrens club in Kings Lynn called The Dyscoverers Club, where they do activities, have outings ect, not only will this be good for Sophie, it will be good networking for Jen and Andy, to compare notes and make them realise they are not alone. www.dyspraxiawn.org.uk
So since we contacted the press the developments we have had are:-
Weekly Speech Therapy
Had contacts and offers of sympathy and support from 3 people
Contact by the local Dyspraxia Association, with Sophie joining their club
Action Plan put in place for Sophie to get an Electronic Communication Aid.
I can certainly say it was well worth doing, there has been a short follow up in the press giving an update on Sophies progress, after a phone call from the reporter, as she is running a similar story about another child.
